The aviation plug is a connector that originated from the military industry, hence the name, referred to as the aviation plug. The aviation plug is an electromechanical component that connects the circuit, so when choosing an aviation plug, the first thing to consider is its own electrical parameters. The correct selection and use of aviation plugs is an important aspect to ensure circuit reliability. Aviation plugs, also known as plug sockets, are widely used in various circuits to connect or disconnect circuits. It is the manufacturer's responsibility to improve the reliability of aviation plugs. However, due to the wide variety of aviation plugs and their wide range of applications, the correct selection of aviation plugs is also an important aspect to improve the reliability of aviation plugs. Only through the joint efforts of manufacturers and users can aviation plugs maximize their effectiveness.
Aviation plug application environmental requirements: Common environmental characteristics of aviation plugs include temperature resistance, moisture resistance, salt spray resistance, vibration resistance and impact resistance.
1. Temperature resistance. At present, the maximum operating temperature of aviation plugs is 200℃, and the minimum operating temperature is -65℃. When the connector is operating, the current generates heat at the contact points, causing the temperature to rise. Therefore, it is generally believed that the operating temperature should be equal to the sum of the ambient temperature and the contact temperature. In some specifications, the allowable higher temperature rise of the connector under the rated operating current is clearly specified.
2. Moisture resistance and moisture intrusion will affect the insulation performance of the aviation plug and rusted metal parts. The constant humidity test conditions are relative humidity 90%-95% (up to 98% according to product specifications), temperature 40±20ºC, and the test time is less than 96 hours according to product specifications. The alternating damp heat test is more stringent.
3. Resistant to salt spray. When an aviation plug operates in an environment containing moisture and salt, the surface treatment layer of its metal structural parts and contacts may produce galvanic corrosion, thus affecting the physical and electrical performance of the connector. In order to evaluate the ability of electrical connectors to withstand this environment, the salt spray test is prescribed. It hangs the connector in a temperature-controlled test chamber and uses compressed air to spray sodium chloride solution with a specified concentration to form a salt spray atmosphere. The exposure time is specified in the product manual and is at least 48 hours.
4. Resistant to vibration and impact. Vibration resistance and impact resistance are important properties of electrical connectors. It is particularly important in special application environments such as aerospace, railway, and road transportation. It is an important indicator for testing the robustness and reliability of electrical contacts. There are clear provisions in the relevant test methods. In the shock test, the peak acceleration, duration and shock pulse waveform, as well as the interruption time of electrical continuity should be specified.
5. Other environmental protection properties. Depending on the usage requirements, other environmentally friendly properties of aviation plugs include air tightness (air leakage, liquid pressure), liquid immersion (resistance to specific liquids) and low air pressure.
